In no particular order…
Here is a list of the hottest web design trends that have emerged in 2011:
Mobile
Website designers have had to adapt to the massive growth in internet ready mobile devices. It is more important now than it ever has been for websites to look good on smart phones, tablet devices, notebooks etc.
In fact, forecasters predict that in 2011, for the first time ever, more smart phones will be sold than laptops. So this will be even more relevant in the future.
Designing for touch screens
Touch screen devices have also flooded the market. Because of this, there has been a massive increase in ‘flip through’ digital books and magazines to capitalise on the tactile ‘touchy feely’ nature of this new technology There has also been an increase in horizontal scrolling as this is more appropriate for mobile touch screen devices.
Conversely, there has been a reduction in ‘hover over’ drop down menus- as you can’t use the mouse to ‘hover over’ areas of the screen when using a touch screen device.
QR Codes
QR codes can be used to link to websites in a number of ways. They are appearing on business cards, flyers, newsletters, magazine covers and virtually every kind of marketing communications imaginable. They are a great way to direct a smart-phone user to your website.
QR codes make it even more important to have smart-phone optimised home pages and to integrate games and interactive media, which are compatible with mobile devices onto your websites.
Flash> Html5
HTML 5 will become dominant over flash in order to create animated elements of website designs. This is because Html5 does not require an external plug in and therefore is more much more compatible with new technology and mobile devices.
Large Photographic Backgrounds
Serendipity2 love large photographic backgrounds. They can create a striking visual impression and are becoming more popular because of high definition display screens. Soft slightly transparent background images can be used to complement the content on a page.
